About the TempleChintpurni temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in India. Chintpurni or Chhinnamastika shakti peeth is situated in Una district of Himachal Pradesh. Chintpurni Shakti Peeth houses the temple of Chinnamastika Devi. Chhinnamastika meaning the severed-headed or the foreheaded. The temple is devoted to Chintpurni Devi who is also known as Chhinnamastika Devi. Devotees visit this Shakti Peeth to pray at the lotus feet of Goddess Chhinnamastika. Here, the Goddess is worshipped in a pindi or phallic form, without her head.

Temple HistoryThe temple was established by Bhai Mai Das, a Saraswat Brahman. He was a keen devotee of Goddess Durga. Once, Goddess came in his dream and asked him to build a temple at this place. Hence, he built the temple in Chhaproh village. Since then, his descendants are serving as the priests at the temple who conduct prayers and perform puja at the Chintpurni temple. Over the time the place became popular as Chintpurni after the eponymous deity.

Temple LegendWhen Lord Vishnu severed the corpse of Goddess Sati into 51 pieces to calm down the Lord Shiva and to stop his Tandava dance, the body parts were scattered over different places. It is believed that Sati’s feet were dropped at this place. Hence, it is considered one of the most important of the 51 Shakti Peeths.
According to Markandeya Purana, when Goddess Chandi defeated the demons, two of her yogini emanations, Jaya and Vijaya who helped her in the battle were thirsty for more blood. Goddess Chandi chopped her own head to quench their thirst.Chhinnamasta, the headless goddess, is the divine Power who helps the sincere and honest devotees to dissolve their mind. Cutting off the head depicts the disassociation of the mind from the body, separation of the consciousness from the material confines of the physical body. The term 'Chhinnamastika' suggests 'without the head'.
According to Hindu Purans, Chhinnamastika Devi is protected by Lord Shiva in the four directions. There are four Shiva temples namely Kaleshwar Mahadev in the east, Muchkund Mahadev in the north, Narayhana Mahadev in the west and Shiva Bari in the south. All these temples stands at equidistant from Chintpurni temple.
Festivals and CelebrationsDuring Navratras, the temple organizes big fairs and festivity where a large number of people flock this place to take the blessings from Goddess. The fair is held three times a year i.e. during Chaitri and Ashvin Navratras and during the first ten days of Shukla Paksha. Apart from this, Makar Sakranti, Sawan Ashtami, Asuj Navratras and New Year Event are celebrated with great fervor.

By Air: Gaggal Airport (60 km) in Kangra is the nearest airport.
By Rail: The nearest rail heads are Amb Andaura (19 km) and Hoshiarpur (in Punjab) which is 43 km away.
By Road: The temple is located about 3 km west of Bharwain on the Hoshiarpur – Dharamshala road. Buses and private vehicles are available from all the major towns of Himachal Pradesh.
