About the TempleGaltaji is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage centre in Khania-Balaji town which is about 10 km away from the city of Jaipur in Rajasthan. Galtaji consists of a series of temples in the hill region of Aravali that surrounds the Jaipur city. A natural spring emerges on the hill and flows down, filling a series of holy water tanks in which pilgrims take a dip. This temple has seven sacred ‘kunds’ or water tanks. 'Galta Kund’ is the holiest one and is said to never get dry. A stream of pure water flows from the ‘Gaumukh’, into the tanks. The devotees then reach to hilltop temple which offers a breathtaking view of Jaipur city.

Temple HistoryThe temple is located in the Aravalli hills. It was built during the 18th century by Diwan Rao Kriparam, who was a courtier of Sawai Jai Singh II. The main temple is known as Temple of Galtaji which is made out of Pink stone. The temple features many canopies with rounded roofs, carved pillars, and painted walls. The temple resembles a palatial mansion or Haveli of Rajasthan. The temple has paintings of Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Ganesh and Goddess Parvati along with scenes from various festivals. The temple walls also had some beautiful mural, but over the years, many of them were washed away due to heavy rains. Galtaji is extremely important in the Vaishnav cult.

The temple complex has shrines of Lord Balaji, Lord Ram, and Lord Krishna. Apart from these shrines, a temple is built on the highest peak of the town of Galta which is dedicated to the Sun God.The Ramgopalji temple is popularly known as Monkey temple due to the presence of a large number of monkeys in the temple premises. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman.

It is believed that Sage Galav, who was born in Satya Yug, brought the river Ganga to Galta Ji place through the Gaumukh (cow’s mouth) by his magical power.
The story behind this temple is of Satya Yuga age, Sage Galav performed penance for 100 years. God pleased with his devotion and appeared before him and blessed this place with abundant water. A temple was built in the memory of Sage Galav and it was named after him.
