Goddess Siddhidatri: 9th day of Navratri

Goddess Siddhidatri is worshiped on the 9th day of Navaratri and she is the form of Goddess Durga. In Sanskrit, Siddhi is termed to be perfection. The Legend states that, in the beginning of the universe, Lord Rudra was worshipping Adi-Parashakti for the creation of the Universe. It is said that she did not have any form or any image that can be depicted. Thus, the goddess of supreme devotion and creation of the universe came in the form of “Siddhidatri” from the left half of Lord Shiva. Thus, the form is popularly worshiped on the ninth day of the Navaratri.

Appearance of Maa Siddhidatri:  It is believed that Goddess Siddhidatri is said to be a perfectionist who gives direction and energy to planet  Ketu. Thus, the planet Ketu is said to be governed by her. Goddess Siddhidatri rests on a Kamal (Lotus Flower) and rides on a Lion. She is depicted in the form of Goddess with four hands and she has a Gadha and Charaka in her right hands and Conch and a Lotus flower in her left hands. She is also said to be the bringer of good fortune and prosperity. She adores the royal red saree and has a pleasant look on her face.

Power of Maa Siddhidatri:  The Goddess Siddhidatri is said to be capable of granting twenty-six different boon to all her worshippers. These are all achieved by her and thus she is termed to be Siddhidarthi, the achiever of all the success. There are 18 types of achievements which are of different siddhis. If we worship Lord Siddhidarti it is said that we can attain success from the 18 achievements that are listed, Anima, Mahima, Garima, Ladhima, Prapti, Prakaamya, Ishitva,Vashitva, Sarvakaamaal,Saadhita, Sarvagynatva, DurShravana, Parkaayapraveshan, VakaSiddhi, Kalpavrushatva, Shrishti, Samharkaransaamarthya, Amaratva, Sarvanyayakatva, Bhavana and Siddhi. It is said that Lord Shiva attained all these Siddhis by worshipping Goddess Shakti and thus he came to be known as “Ardhanarishwara” who possess the knowledge of both man and woman.

The ninth day of Navaratri that is dedicated to Goddess Siddhidatri is observed as “Mahanavami” in many parts of the country. The form of goddess Durga flourished the devotees with knowledge and purity.
