About the TempleAbout the Temple Govind Dev Ji Temple is a spiritual and religious destination, especially for the devotees of Lord Krishna. The temple is located in the Jaipur city just between the Badal Mahal and the Chandra Mahal. The Satsang Bhawan at the Govind Dev Ji temple has a marvel of construction because it has one of the widest flat roof construction which is spread over 119 ft.

Temple History and Temple legend

The temple was built in 1735 by Raja Sawai Pratap Singh II. The Govind Dev Ji temple is dedicated to the 8th avatar of Lord Vishnu, Shree Krishna. Earlier the idol of Govind Ji Maharaj was installed at the Vrindavan temple which is located in Uttar Pradesh. Later, Raja Sawai Jai Singh Ji brought the idol to Jaipur.

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Ji wanted to explore the sacred place which was associated with Lord Krishna. Hence, he visited Vrindavan. Later Mahaprabhu Ji was finally able to locate the place which was mentioned in the Bhagvat Purana but he couldn’t stay there for much time. It is believed that Shri Roop Goswami Ji and Sanatan Goswami Ji visited Vrindavan Dham to complete the sacred task which was started by ShriChaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II brought the idol of Govind Dev Ji from Vrindavan to his palace Surya Mahal. According to a legend, once Maharaja saw a dream where Lord Krishna asked him to bring his idol from Vrindavan and install it in his own residence in order to save it from getting destroyed by the Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb. Later on, the idol was installed between the Badal Mahal and the Chandra Mahal which is the present temple of Govindji Maharaj.

As per the Hindu mythology, Bajranabh, the great grandson of Lord Krishna, sculpted an astonishing idol of the Govind Dev Ji around 5000 yrs back. It is believed that when Bajranabh was 13, he asked his grandmother about the appearance of Lord Krishna. Bajranabh created the exact image of Lord Krishna after two unsuccessful attempts. The image was known as Bajrakrit which means a creation of Bajra.

Festivals, Pujas, and Celebrations

Every Hindu festival is celebrated at the Govind Dev Ji Temple with great devotion. Janmashtami and Holi are the major festivals. Janmashtami is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. Faag, Raas, and special Jhanki begin one month before Holi.

The Govind Dev Ji temple is a popular pilgrimage for the devotees of Lord Krishna after Vrindavan temple.
