About the TempleHarshnath temple is an ancient Hindu temple situated in the Sikar district of Rajasthan. The temple is 14 km away from Sikar. The temple is consecrated to Lord Shiva. Harshnath temple is constructed according to North Indian architecture style. The temple campus houses various shrines which are almost damaged. The main temple faces towards the east. The prayer hall and pillars are heavily carved with images of native gods and goddesses. The inner temple wall has a portrait of goddess Parvati in a standing posture along with her female attendants. The main sanctum is surrounded by small shrines. The idol of Lord Shiva is placed on the raised platform. The temple ceiling and flooring are very simple yet beautiful. The sanctum has a wooden door which is carved with floral design.

Temple History and Temple LegendHarshnath temple was built in 973 AD by Bhavarakta, a Shiva devotee during the reign of Chahamana king Vigraharaja I. The temple is located on the high hills called Mt Harsha of Aravali. It was developed and renovated by the King Singhraj, the erstwhile Emperor of Ajmer. The original temple was constructed in 973 AD which was destroyed in 1679 AD by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. In 1718 AD, Rao Shiv Singh made a new temple adjacent to the old temple using the ruins of the old temple. The devotees need to climb fleet of steps to reach the temple.
