About the Temple
Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple is located in the Kadiri town of Anantapur District in Andhra Pradesh. The idol of the main deity Lord Narasimha Swamy is seen with a lion face and eight hands, killing Hirankashyapa, hence it is also known as Ashta Bahu Narasimha. Prahlada is seen standing with his hands folded beside the Lord. The idol depicts the entire mythological story.

The temple of Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy at Kadiri is a Swayambhu temple. It is believed that Lord Narasimha emerged from the roots of Kadiri tree to kill Hirankashyap. The Idol of Lord Narasimha secretes sweat after daily holy bath or Abhishek which still remains a miracle. The place is popular with Jasmine flowers and vermillion silk.
Temple Idol
The temple of Narasimha Swamy was established during the period of Rayalusis. The temple is spread over a huge area which has numerous beautiful idols all around. Construction of Grabhgriha and Mukha Mandapam is an example of brilliant architectural works of Tretayug. Garbgriha is ornamented with four Lions in four corners. There are four entrances to the temple. The Eastern gate is the main entrance of the temple which was designed by Harihararaya. The Lotus shaped stage has an image of Narasimha Swamy and a standing idol of Prahlada can be seen behind the idol of the Lord, near the main entrance gate. On the eastern entrance, one can see Idol of Anjaneeyaswami. The beautiful Prahladanugrah Murti of deity with four arms and goddess Lakshmi is installed at another temple in the campus.

Legend of the Temple
All the legends related to Narasimha Swamy and Kadiri dates back to Tretayug.
As per the legend of Hindu mythology, Prahalad was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. His father Hirankashyap used to torture him since he refused to consider Hirankashyap god. Lord Narasimha Swamy is one of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu who has human torso and lion face, assassinated Hirankashyap and saved Prahalad from his tortures. After killing Hirankashyap Lord Lakshmi Narasimha decided to settle in Kadiri.
It is also believed that the place got its name due to a hill which had an imprint of Lord Vishnu. Kha refers to Lord Vishnu and Adri means the footprints. It is said that Lord Vishnu emerged from Nadira tree and revealed his Narsimha avatar to one of his devotees who worshipped him under the tree to see his avatar.

Festivals and Celebrations
Rathothsavam or Annual chariot festival is conducted every year in this temple. On this sacred day, a huge Chariot with Lord Lakshmi Narasimha is pulled by hundreds of devotees on the streets. The festival is celebrated with much fervor and gaiety.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Kadiri. The temple is just 1.8 km away.
By Air: The nearest airport is Sri Sathya Sai Airport in Puttaparthi which is 76 km away.
