About the Temple:Tulsi Peeth is a religious place and a social service institution situated at Janki Kund region of Chitrakoot in Madhya Pradesh. Tulsi peeth was established on August 2, 1987, by a religious leader Jagadguru Rambhadracharya. According to the local belief, this Tulsi Peeth is situated at the place where Lord Ram gave his sandals to his brother Bharat before departing from Ayodhya. The campus of Tulsi Peeth houses the residence of Guru Rambhadracharya which is known as Darshan. There are two temples inside the Tulsi peeth complex. A temple called Kanch Mandir which has an attached hall known as Raghav Satsang Bhavan. Another temple is known as Manas Mandir. The entire Ramcharitmanas is engraved on the inner temple walls of Manas Mandir. A depiction of moving models of sixteen important scenes from Ramcharitmanas can be seen in a hall above the Manas Mandir. Tulsi peeth also houses a cow-pen, a university for visually disabled students, a hostel for students of the university and a guest house for devotees.

Temple History and Temple Legend:In 1983, Rambhadracharya observed his second six-month Payovrata. He would consume a diet comprised of only milk and fruits. He would speak only Sanskrit and used to stay at the Sphatik Shila in Chitrakoot. The kingof Chitrakoot, Hemraj Singh Chaturvedi, was impressed by Guru Rambhadracharya. He offered 60 feet by 80 feet land to Rambhadracharya. The land was situated near the Mandakini river at Janki Kund. Gita Devi, Rambhadradas's elder sister, asked him to construct an ashram on this plot. Rambhadracharya got four rooms constructed on this land.

In 1986, he observed a nine-month Payovrata at this ashram. He also started performing religious Kathas at the ashram. Ramcharandas Phalahari, the Sampradaya mentor of Rambhadracharya, wanted him to stay with him at his ashram in Prayag, but Rambhadradas was not convinced. In 1988, Umacharan Gupta, a businessman from Manikpur offered a help to build a huge ashram and a temple on the condition that Rambhadracharya has to stay there permanently. Rambhadracharya agreed and the construction began. On 11 March 1987, the Kanch Mandir or Glass-temple was established and Rambhadracharya kept his promise by living permanently in Chitrakoot. On August 2, 1987, he established Tulsi Peeth.

Temple Architecture:The design of Tulsi peeth is inspired by the local architecture style. Tulsi peeth premises houses number of temples and other buildings The Kanch mandir houses the image of Lord Ram. Next to the Kanch Mandir, a small shrine can be seen which is dedicated to Lord Hanuman.

The festivals of Tulsi Jayanti, Tulsi vivah and Deepavali are celebrated in a grand manner.
Apart from religious activities, serving the cows and sages, the peeth also conducts medical camps for poor and needy people.
