About The temple
The Brahma Temple is located on the eastern bank of Bindusagar lake and towards the left side of the path that leads to popular Lingaraj Temple. Brahma temple is surrounded by Bindusagar tank. The present temple structure was built by the Gajapati rulers. The unique four handed black idol of Lord Brahma is depicted holding a holy book and a water vessel in his upper two hands. While one of the lower arms has a rosary and another hand is seen posing in Abhaya Mudra. Before visiting Lingaraj Temple, it is necessary to take blessings of Lord Brahma at this temple.

Temple History and Temple Legend
The history of main Brahma temple dates back to the 15th century. The temple is constructed according to the Kalingan style architecture. The present temple was built during the Gajapati dynasty. A four-armed black idol of Lord Brahma is seen holding a holy book and a water vessel in his upper two hands. While lower hand has a rosary and another lower hand is seen in Abhaya Mudra. At present, the daily rituals are performed by Brahmins belonging to Panda family.
Lord Brahma came to the city of Bhubaneswar to attend the coronation of Lord Lingaraj. Here, he was requested to stay forever but he refused and assured the locals that he will come every year in the month of Chaitra to celebrate the festival of Ashokashtami. Not only this, he also promised that he will be the charioteer or Sarathi of the Rukuna Rath of Shri Lord Lingaraja. Hence, a temple was established in the honor of Lord Brahma near Bindusagar.

The major festivals celebrated in this temple are Kartik Purnima, Ashokashtami, Guru Purnima, and Diwali.
