About the TempleThe Dwarkadhish temple also known as Jagat temple is located on the bank of Gomti river in Dwarka city of Jamnagar district in Gujarat. The temple is more than 2500 years old and it is believed to be built by Vajranabh, the great grandson of Lord Krishna

The primary deity is Lord Krishna. The temple is a marvelous structure seeming to rise from the waters of the Arabian Sea. Its extraordinary carved shikhar is 170 feet tall and the huge flag made from 52 yards of cloth, can be seen from as far away as 10 km. The flag of the temple is changed three times a day.
The temple has 56 steps that leads to the backside of the temple on the side of the Gomti river. The temple is built from soft limestone and consists of a sanctum, vestibule and a hall with porches on the three sides. There are two gateways called swarga dwar or gate to the heavens, through which pilgrims enter, and moksha dwar or gate to liberation, through which pilgrims exit.
The lower part of the Dwarkadhish temple belongs to the 16th century and the remaining part of the temple including clusters of small towers belongs to the 19th century. The main part of the temple has five storeys, and it stands over 100 feet. The carvings on its exterior depict eroticism, a multiple mythic intensity and extraordinary design. The interior of the temple is very simple. The shrine of the Dwarkadhish idol is elaborated with ornamentation.

History
During the war, Sri Krishna had defeated Kansa, who was his maternal uncle and also a cruel king ruling the Mathura. Later, he crowned Ugrasen, the Kansa's father, the king of Mathura. This was not accepted by the Kansa's father-in-law who was a king of Magadha and hence he attacked Mathura 17 times. To assure the safety of the people, Shree Krishna and the Yadavas moved to Dwarka city.
As instructed by Shree Krishna, Vishwakarma, a supernal architect, created the city on the banks of the Gomati river. At that time, Dwarka was popularly known as Swarna Dwarika, Dvaramati, Dvaravati, and Kushsthali.

Janmashtami day or Krishna Janmotsav is celebrated very joyously. As Dwarka is known at Mokshapuri it is very special event at Dwarka. The devotees across the India and abroad come to celebrate this special festival.
On the first day of the Kartik month, which is also a New Year day according to Hindu calendar is celebrated on the grand scale.
Annakut utsav, Tulsi vivah, Maker sankranti, Vasantpanchmi, Holi, Ram navmi, Rath yatra, Dushera, Roop Choudas and Deepotsavi are celebrated with special flavor.Best time to visitThe ideal time to visit Dwarkadhish Temple is during winter, between October and March, when the weather is pleasant.

By Bus: Regular buses are available for Dwarka. Nearest Bus Station is Dwarka. Tourists can take bus or taxi to commute between Jamnagar airport and Dwarka. State Transport Corporation buses connect Dwarka with nearby places.
By Train: Dwarka is well connected to other major cities of the country via trains. The nearby railway station is Dwarka
By Flight: Jamnagar airport, at a distance of nearly 45 kilometers is the nearest airport to Dwarka.
